Manvel was founded in 1890 and started as a small group of businesses established along local railroad crossings. Manvel endured its share of hardships, weather, and economic worry until 1930 when Texas Oil Company discovered oil here … the tipping point for the population to grow!

Fun fact – Manvel was originally known as Pomona until they realized another city with the same name already existed in Texas (guess there really wasn’t any Google available back when!), so they renamed to Manvel, after the president of the railroad.

Manvel was incorporated in 1961. The 2021 population of Manvel is about 15,000 residents. The projected population is expected to reach 35,000 by 2028. Much of the ado about Manvel is proximity to Houston’s Metroplex (about 7 million residents). This commute/drive into Houston has become much more convenient with State Highway 288 Toll Road (SH 288), which makes the miles super convenient between Manvel and Houston.

The Manvel Economic Development Corporation (MEDC) has adopted a comprehensive master plan for the expected growth pattern of the city.
